Australia's Dublin-based acoustic powerhouse Rory Faithfield is back in Ireland to launch his fourth album. With Celtic songlines in his head and grains of sand between his toes, Rory has conjured an alluring songbook of life, love and consequence!
Dividing his time between Dublin and Vasse on the West Australian coast, Rory has honed his craft on the European pub circuit to create this authentic home-coming album. Big Blue Western Skies casts a wistful spell; capturing the hypnotic harsh beauty of our summers, while the single release Born in Sydney Town is a little piece of home for every erstwhile Australian traveller. Clonard beguiles as a Celtic ballad of the journey featuring John O'Brien on Uilleann Pipes & Whistles.
Much of Songs for Sooner was written last year in Australia, then recorded in Ireland with a full band which included Nick Scott (Van Morrison) and Johnny Boyle (The Frames). Rory co-produced the album with industry veteran Gavin Murphy and also includes top local musicians Bill Shanley, Christian Herzberger, Lorcan Daly, and Ciaran Byrne.
Applauded by the often unforgiving Irish music media, Rory is described as "Power Acoustic" by the Irish Independent, and "invigorating and inspiring" by The Irish Times.
In a recent 4 Star review, 'The Australian' (national newspaper) noted that, “his message is that all shades of experience can be metamorphosed into positivity and individualistic growth”, and the West Australian newspaper remarked that “this is beautiful, straightforward storytelling, saturated in Irish folk traditions but with a keen edge born of Faithfield's days as a punk rocker in Sydney. I was reminded of Paul Kelly's more lyrical excursions, which is a high compliment”. |

::: Currently touring in Australia with Declan O'Rourke :::
The latest single from the forthcoming 'Songs For Sooner' album. Written on a Qantas flight to Sydney and recorded late last year back in Dublin. Featuring Johhny Boyle on Drums, Gavin Murphy on keyboards, Nick Scott on Bass and Bill Shanley on lead guitars. Recorded at The Cauldron Studios Dublin & Spiral Studios, County Meath.
Renowned for his positive energy and infectious enthusiasm, with songs that bounce between folk, rock, trip hop and every place in between, Rory's solo acoustic shows are a simultaneously mystical and energising experience. Described as "Power Acoustic" by the Irish Independent.
An attitude of exploration, demonstrated by a childhood spent "digging up stuff in the backyard", and early years playing in garage punk bands around Sydney Australia, led to a move to Ireland 18 years ago where songs became the obsession. After writing and developing his craft amongst the heavily populated singer-songwriter scene in Dublin, Rory started quietly slipping off to mainland Europe, touring solo acoustic, refining and expanding his repertoire with literally hundreds of gigs and continues to tour regularly both in Australia and Ireland.
Described by one journalist as "a strength that will move and inspire you with jolts of positive energy", 1998 saw the UK-only release of his debut album and first single 'NOWHERE SOMEWHERE ANYWHERE', recorded in Dublin.
Rory's second album, 'BLOOD, BONES & SOUL', was also recorded in Dublin, with Bill Shanley and Ciaran Byrnes sharing production duties at 'The Cauldron Studios'. An uplifting and energised set of songs featuring the metaphysical imagery of 'SHED MY SKIN' and the invigorating 'RISE ABOVE'. The Irish Times observed that his “relentlessly upbeat folk-rock courses with positive thinking and surges with vigorous musicality....Faithfield is invigorating and inspiring....”
In 2007, Rory Faithfield returned with his third and fundamentally solo acoustic album 'CIRCLE DANCE'. The intriguing song 'CLONARD' opens the album, and to quote the West Australian newspaper: “This is beautiful, straightforward storytelling, saturated in Irish folk traditions but with a keen edge born of Faithfield's days as a punk rocker in Sydney. I was reminded of Paul Kelly's more lyrical excursions, which is a high compliment"

In 2007, Rory Faithfield returns to the Cauldron
Studios for the recording of his third album 'CIRCLE DANCE'.
A fundamentally solo acoustic project that conveys the true energy
of his live shows. The intriguing 'CLONARD' opens
the album, which, as explained on Rory's My Space Blog, was a gift
delivered fully formed in a dream where the Irish folk legend, Christy
Moore, was witnessed entertaining a sing-along crowd in a backstreet
pub. The mystery and profound intent of these songs unfolds as the
album progresses and will prove to be Rory's most successful project
to date.

RORY
FAITHFIELD: BLOOD, BONES & SOUL
Irish Release Date: March 7th 2003 The
long overdue second album, BLOOD, BONES & SOUL, is once again recorded
in Dublin, with Bill Shanley and Ciaran Byrnes sharing production duties
at
'The Cauldron Studios'. A mix of contemporary trip-hop and retro rock
inspired grooves drive this new set of songs where the overall feel is
uplifting and energetic. Kicking off with the metaphysical imagery of
SHED
MY SKIN, the opening statement is simplified with track two and first
single
RISE ABOVE. A soaring blast of a chorus, rooted in punk/pop, opens the
gates
to more tales of empowerment, where the creation of future is dependent
on
the state of mind of the architect. Onwards with the Gospel imbued title
track, BLOOD, BONES & SOUL, a reckless unstoppable, ENDLESS, the carefree
trip-hop of ARMS OF GRACE, and through to the final Bob Dylan flavoured
proclamation, 'The truth is only a WHISPER AWAY'.....
