Dublin-based American singer/actress Maria Tecce celebrates the launch of her new album “Torch Song” this year with her new show “Torch”, kicking-off at this year's Dublin Fringe Festival 2006 on September 20th, and touring Ireland, the U.K., and Europe September – January 2006/2007. This tour-du-force performer has sold-out the world famous venue the ‘Spiegeltent’ in Europe 2 years in a row with her shows “Night and the City” (2005) & “Torch Song” (2004) where her performance received a standing ovation.

Originally from Boston, the Italian-Polish American Maria has garnered acclaim as one of Ireland’s foremost and dynamic vocalists and critics have raved about her live performances, interpretation of material, and original work. Both her one-woman jazz/cabaret shows and gigs have played to packed houses all over Ireland, Europe, U.K., and the USA, highlighting the most entrancing qualities of Maria’s music - her wide audience appeal and powerful live performances.

After the 2003 release of her debut album “All About Love” and a sold-out run of her previous show of the same name in venues around Ireland, Maria quickly became a bright and fiery star on the music & acting scenes in Ireland. She has gone from strength to strength and her cabaret and straight jazz shows continue to highlight not only this jazz chanteuse’s acclaimed vocal talents but also the demonstrative and effortless acting skills of a seasoned actor and performer.

Guest appearances this past year saw Maria supporting Dionne Warwick for a second time at her sold-out gig in Vicar St. in March, and sharing the stage with Irish Legend Ronnie Drew of ‘The Dubliners’, which lead to regular requests to guest on radio and television programs in Ireland.

Maria first arrived in Ireland 8 years ago and has garnered among her musicians members of bands from Van Morrison, Norma Winstone, Sister Sledge, Jools Holland, Lisa Stansfield, The Waterboys, and Paul Brady. Gigs at top live venues in Ireland quickly followed and Maria has been invited back four years running to the renowned Guinness International Jazz Festival in Cork which attracts the cream of music artists from all over the world. This multi-talented diva’s original songs have also gained notoriety and are included on two separate CD compilations featuring the likes of Grammy Award Winners John Prine, Bruce Mathiske, Ron Sexsmith, and Bella Fleck as well as Irish artists Jack L, Juliet Turner, Damien Rice, David Kitt, Paddy Casey, Hazel O’Connor, and Luka Bloom.

“…If cabaret legend Marlene Dietrich was the Queen of the 'Spiegeltent' venue when it toured back in the 1930s, then Maria Tecce is unquestionably its new crowning glory... “ - Louis-Courtney Jones, frankthemonkey.com

  Maria Tecce
Singer/Actress/Musician

Maria Tecce, Ireland’s hot new American actress/singer who rattled Carrigstown as the nasty ‘Ice Queen’ Camille Barnett in Ireland’s soap opera “Fair City”, has just released her debut album “All About Love” and recently sold out her hit one-woman show of the same name in brand new and prestigious Dublin venue The Helix .Maria recently toured around Ireland in April to support her debut CD “All About Love” which has been received with critical and popular acclaim by Irish music critics.

As Ireland’s newest cabaret performer, Maria is fast becoming a bright and fiery star on the music, cabaret, and acting scenes here in Ireland. Maria’s first professional acting job in Ireland only a year and a half ago found her smack in the middle of Ireland’s most popular soap opera “Fair City” as the icy American boss from hell Camille Barnett. Her television debut was quickly followed by Corca Corca Theatre Company’s sell-out success “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, where Maria played the two leading men’s roles ‘Oberon’ and ‘Theseus’, a featured role in Jim Sheridan’s new film “East of Harlem”, and the continuing success of her one-woman jazz cabaret shows in Dublin and European theatre festivals.   Tecce charms in the name of love ****
Robert Cullen, Entertainment Editor, Sligo Weekender

Wow. And once you’ve read that, wow again. It is not often a wordsmith like myself is lost for something to say, but in the aftermath of a truly stunning performance by one Maria Tecce, I was both dumbstruck and spellbound. It was with a little trepidation that I approached her laid back performance in the Hawk’s Well Theatre foyer. Bedecked in candles and low lighting, it resembled your typical jazz club, which is, of course what it was meant to resemble.
From the opening number, the pulsating “This Can’t Be Love”, the mood was set further. Tecce’s quirky vocal syle is almost intimidating at first, but you relax and accept that for her singing is as natural as breathing. There is no doubting her talent either. Her interpretation of jazz standards like “Sister Sadie”, “Love For Sale”, and the opening number carried the audience along at a pace which she dictated.
Tecce wasn’t afraid to slow it down either. Songs like the Mae West classic “My Old Flame”, “Besame Mucho” and her own compositions “This Love Is Through” were sung with a dignity which almost made you feel your own heart was breaking. The show was divided into two halves and for the opening of the second half, Maria emerged sans band to perform acapella.
It was in these softer, quieter moments that Maria’s sense of the dramatic came to the fore, with expressions which almost verged on tears. However, the audience were never left to wallow in sadness. Fast numbers sung with great urge, an innate sense of rhythm and the occasional but of comic value kept the show alive.
In between songs, Tecce teased and talked to the audience, giving us an insight into her love of jazz and her even greater love of performance. For around two hours Maria Tecce charmed her audience, held them in the palm of her hand, and managed to let them leave feeling far better than when they arrived.
Of a performer we can ask no more and expect no less.

This sold out success of the ESB Dublin Fringe Festival returns to the beautiful and intimate venue The Cobalt Cafe, North Great George’s St., Dublin for a special run in February.

Join performer Maria Tecce for a night of love, lost and found, bought and sold, forgotten and everlasting, stories of obsession, ecstasy, destruction, and joy. It’s jazz, it’s blues, it’s cabaret and theatre, all bathed in a delicious cocktail of music performed by Phil Ware (piano), Dave Redmond (double bass), and Peter Browne (accordian). It’s a night celebrating love in all its incarnations – come fasten your seatbelts and enjoy the ride!
*There will be a special show Friday, February 14th with a champagne basket raffle.

“Smoldering and sexy...a stylish singer with a gift for getting the most out of the lyrics...a sensual angel on stage...” The Irish Independent

“Tecce’s singing combines the intelligence of a musician and the beguiling power of a leading actress.” The Sunday Herald

Doors at 8pm, show starts at 8:30pm
Tickets 14/10 euro, bookings through The Cobalt Cafe (01) 873-0313
