HANSON announced that they will be releasing a special internet exclusive track in recognition of World AIDS Day on December 1st. The song, “Great Divide”, features a South African children's choir and was recorded on the group's recent trip to Africa. In July, Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson traveled to South Africa and Mozambique in an effort to learn more about the issue to see firsthand the devastation of AIDS on the continent and what can be done to join those already working to bring relief to the millions suffering from the disease. The band were accompanied by DocVia, a healthcare technology company based in the band's home town of Tulsa, Oklahoma, who produce mobile technology to connect remote patients with regional medical providers and who donated all of their technology to the Perinatal HIV Research Unit at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, South Africa (www.hivsa.com).

“Our trip to Africa was a personal awakening,” says Taylor Hanson. “Our experience there made clear that the fight against AIDS is an urgent cause that requires action whether you're in the ghetto's of Soweto or suburbs of America. That is the message we want to help deliver through whatever means we can amass and encourage others to do so as well.”

The coming track “Great Divide” is a hopeful yet intense rock anthem that inspires a call to action. Explains Isaac Hanson, “Great Divide is about facing what seem to be insurmountable tasks, and the hunger we all have for a glimpse of hope. When you hear the voices of African kids, singing along to the words 'I find hope' in their native languages, it makes the message of the song that much more poignant and chilling.”

The track will be released across Europe on Monday 27th November as a digital download via iTunes and for UK mobile download on the 3 Network in exclusive arrangements and 100% of the revenues derived by the sale of the song will be donated to the Perinatal HIV Unit at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, South Africa. PHRU co-founder and pediatrician Dr Glenda Gray was excited to receive the news. “It’s amazing to see musicians genuinely committed to understanding the challenges our patients face. Their talent and support are greatly appreciated and will go a long way in helping us prevent mother-to-child HIV transmission in South Africa and around the world.”

By supporting companies like DocVia and donating their music's proceeds to AIDS relief organizations, the band hopes to encourage other artists and companies to engage in a more active role in the fight against AIDS in Africa.

A companion music video, containing footage from Hanson’s trip to Africa that will hopefully serve to increase awareness about the urgent need to confront this issue, will be available on all mobile portals from Friday 1st December.

Hanson were recently praised by New York's Village Voice as “secretly the finest straight up rock band in America” and their documentary film, Strong Enough To Break, was honored last week as an official selection at the Hollywood Film Festival.

10th ANNUAL HOLLYWOOD FILM FESTIVAL®

Indie artists HANSON premiered their documentary STRONG ENOUGH TO BREAK at the prestigious 10th Annual Hollywood Film Festival® presented by STARZ® at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood in October.

With hundreds of entries, the Hollywood Film Festival has become a pre-cursor to the Oscars with 42 Oscar nominations and 9 Oscars awarded to films showcased at the festival in the past three years. HANSON have been Grammy nominees, multi-platinum chart-toppers and Carnegie Hall headliners, but for the brothers and band-mates, acceptance into the Hollywood Film Festival out of hundreds of entries is a tremendous accolade as it chronicles the band’s dramatic choice to leave a major record label to launch their own independent company.

The documentary, a film by director Ashley Greyson, looks at HANSON and their three year struggle with their record label, Island/DefJam, from an insider perspective rarely seen before. What started out as a story about HANSON, turned into a bigger commentary on the state of the music business.

With the music industry in the aftermath of corporate mergers, deregulated radio, and an uncertain future, HANSON is faced with the challenge of making a new album while dealing with an endless array of obstacles. Throughout the forty month ordeal, they must learn to cope with an insatiable record label executive, incompatible producers and ultimately with each other. Hanson, who recently scored their first Top Ten hit in eight years with “Penny & Me”, will be releasing a new single, “Lost Without Each Other” on Friday 18 March. Co-written with Gregg Alexander of New Radicals and taken from their recently released third album, “Underneath”, “Lost Without Each Other” is a riff-driven uptempo pop-rocker that dances its way out of the speakers. The accompanying promo video, directed by Chris Applebaum (Fountains of Wayne's "Stacy's Mom", Kid Rock's "Feel Like Making Love"), will feature performance footage from the band as well a visual interpretation of the song, featuring rising star Samaire Armstrong ("The OC") as 'Penny.'

"Samaire truly embodies the essence of the character we always envisioned for Penny when we first wrote the song," says Taylor Hanson of the 24 year old.

"This video is in essence cinematically capturing a ‘soundtrack to your life’ moment. That feeling you get when you are driving in your car with the windows down, best friend riding shotgun, and the perfect song is on the radio. Every time thereafter, when you hear that three minutes and 50 seconds, life is as it was in the car," says Armstrong who can currently be seen as "Anna Stern" on the Fox series, "The OC."

"Since I have always been a huge fan of Hanson, directing their video is an incredible honor. Not only is this single infectious, but the combination of Hanson and Samaire Armstrong provides a palate for some incredible visuals," says director, Chris Applebaum.

"Underneath" which debuted at number 25 in the Billboard Top 200 and at number 1 in the Billboard Independent Albums charts, represents the group's most accomplished work yet, mixing their love of lush melodies with harmonies that only three brothers can create and production that leaves the rough edges in, but is still larger-than-life when called for.

Hanson, who have just entered into a licensing agreement with Cooking Vinyl, have announced that they will be doing an acoustic show in Dublin's Temple Bar Music Centre on November 9th, which will provide fans a preview of their highly anticipated new studio CD, Underneath, which is due to be released in Europe in February 2005. Just as they did on their critically acclaimed Acoustic ’03 tour of the US, Hanson will forgo the large theatres and arenas they are accustomed to in favor of smaller, more intimate rooms that give fans a chance to experience Hanson and their music up close and personal. Allowing the songs to shine through the acoustic performances, Hanson will deliver a powerful set that showcases their three part harmonies. “This tour is something we have wanted to do for a long time,” Isaac said. “It is really a thank you to our most devoted fans for their patience.” “Doing these shows is like inviting people into the songwriting sessions,” Zac adds. “It is all about giving our fans something special and it’s a great way to introduce the new music.”

To coincide with this date, Hanson will also be releasing a strictly limited edition of 1000 four track acoustic EP. Available on CD only, the tracks – Deeper, Underneath, If Only and I Will Come To You were recorded last year during the band’s highly successful US acoustic tour.

Underneath, which debuted at number 25 in the Billboard Top 200 and at number 1 in the Billboard Independent Albums charts, is an epic, organic alternative guitar rock / pop oriented album, packed with fourteen truly great original songs all written by the trio. More than three years in the making and crammed with catchy melodies, plaintive piano playing and the kind of three part vocal harmonies that only brothers can achieve, Underneath has firmly established Hanson’s credentials as both songwriters and artists. Hanson are joined by a number of special guest on Underneath, including Michelle Branch who contributes background vocals on a track and Phantom Planet’s Sam Farrar who adds bass on a song.

As veterans at a relatively young age, the brothers know the importance of owning their own content and the complexities and challenges facing the music industry today. On the forefront of an emerging trend that includes other established artists such as Pearl Jam, The Eagles and Ozzy Osbourne, Hanson recorded and released Underneath independently on their own, newly-formed record label, 3CG Records in the US although they aren’t trying to compete with the majors they are trying to control the way their music is marketed, promoted and sold in a challenging time for the music industry. Says Taylor Hanson of the newly inked deal with Cooking Vinyl, “We’re thrilled to be working with a label like Cooking Vinyl in the UK and Europe. Hanson’s willingness to embrace the Internet and changing trends in the music industry has set them apart from many of their peers. The band’s online site created in 1994, developed into one of the largest sites in music history at a time when the Internet’s potential was in its infancy. Indeed, they have been credited with discovering talent as well, including a young Michelle Branch, who as a fan opened for the band for their second album, was then signed and became a star in her own right.

In 1997 Hanson made a place in music history with their debut album Middle of Nowhere which earned them three Grammy Award nominations and has sold over 6.5 million copies in the United States alone.
