A
brand new single entitled "Chocolate Factory"
b/w “Lady Gregory” has recently been released
as a free download from www.pale.ie
and www.myspace.com/thepaleie
Classic Pale, in both its quirkiness and pop sensibility. The track
is also available in limited CD format from the shop on the 1969
Record site (www.1969records.com)
and through Road Records. This single is taken from the new forthcoming
Pale album "Proper Order" which is due
for release in early 2009. The Pale also plan a second single before
the release of the new album.
The tracks will
also be available in limited CD format from the shop on the 1969
Records site (www.1969records.com)
and through Road Records.
Classic Pale,
in both its quirkiness and pop sensibility, Chocolate Factory
should form the basis to a grooving summer for the band.
As anyone who
has seen the recent live shows will know, there is still a great
affection for earlier tracks such as "Butterfly",
"Mother Nature is a Man", "Dogs
with no Tails" and "Shut up Venus"
and notwithstanding the long unavailability of these tracks on CD,
this is something that the band are hoping to address in the coming
months, as well as including some more experimental and even more
rare material. |

| Dublin-based
1969 Records, home to Dave Couse & the
Impossible and Pugwash, are delighted to
announce the signing of one of Ireland's favourite and hardest working
bands, THE PALE. Their 1969 Records debut, the single
"Elizabeth in Rags", hits the shops on
May 11th then right on its heels the album "The
Contents of the Shipwreck" gets shipped out to the masses
on May 25th! "We
have been talking with the lads for a number of months and were
excited seeing the album come together over that period. Its lyrically
dense but will definitely engage the feet as well. The Pale are
a good add to the 1969 stable, the music is quality and the band
deliver live" - Daragh Bohan / 1969 Records
The
Pale formed in Dublin in 1990 with Matthew Devereux
on vocals Shane Wearen on Mandolins Sean
Molloy on Bass and a cheap as chips drum machine taking
care of the beats. They released an award winning debut album on
A&M records in 1992 called "Here's one we made
earlier" The debut album and live shows received critical
praise internationally. The singles from that debut "Dogs
with no tails", "Butterfly"
and "Shut up venus" did well in both
Ireland and the UK. The highest chart positions came in Turkey,
Israel and France and has given rise to succesfull cover versions
of their songs released in Turkey over the last decade.
Over the course of the last few years The Pale
have collaborated with a number of different artists and their main
strength as a group is that they always think outside the box. As
the group have toured they have added and subtracted instruments
and players to the line-up. The mainstay of the group has remained
to be the unique sound conjured up by Matthew and Shane. The Sound
of the group is one of ethnic fusion and is often referred to as
eclectic and quirky. Over the years The Pale have recorded five
live sessions for RTE radio and a further two for BBC radio. The
most recent session was recorded for John Kelly's The Mystery Train
for which they debuted new songs from their upcoming album.
In 2006 and The Pale toured non-stop and independently
released "The Final Garden" E.P and is
available on their own label called Devereux Records. Also in 2006
The Pale re-recorded their single "Butterfly"
in their native Irish language for a compilation CD called "Ceol'06"
which charted in the Top Ten in the Irish Charts. A live track from
The Pale called "Slope" was released
on a compilation called "The Garden Sessions"
out on RMG. All proceeds from this record go to The Irish Hospice
Foundation.
Fast forward to 2007 The Pale signed with Irish
Independent label 1969 Records (Dave Couse, Pugwash) and released
THE CONTENTS OF A SHIPWRECK in May which features the single ELIZABETH
IN RAGS. Produced by Q (aka Colm Quearney)
at Qube Analogue Studios in Dublin, the album is right up there
with the band's best work.
