incarnation of the band came to fruition when 23-year-old Portsmouth
born front-man Ben Falinski met with Pop guitarist
Paul Cronin (aka Cro) through a University Press
advert. They instantly discovered a musical chemistry and the plans
for IVYRISE were forged.
Like most obsessive
songwriters Ben and Cro recognised their passion from a very young
age. Having started playing the piano at the age of 5 Ben then went
on to pen his first song at the tender age of 13. 25-year-old Middlesbrough
born Cro secretly unwrapped his brother's birthday present; which
he knew was a guitar; and taught himself the riff to 'Day
Tripper' by The Beatles in enough time to re-wrap the gift
before anyone found out. After meeting his idol Tim Wheeler by sneaking
backstage at an Ash concert in 2001, Cro made it
his mission to follow in Tim's footsteps.
A string of
drummers and bass players followed before the duo finally teamed
up with Liam Malson from Drumtech and Ollie
Patterson from ACM to complete the band. 21-year-old Liam
began drumming just before his 12th birthday in Nottingham and at
the age of 17 dropped out of college to move to London and study
music performance at Drumtech. 20-year-old Hull-born Ollie moved
to Tonbridge at the age of 17 and studied a diploma in music at
West Kent College before attending The Academy of Contemporary Music
in Guildford. Ollie dropped his course at ACM when the opportunity
came along to join Ben, Cro and Liam on the Ivyrise journey.
Once complete, the band were ready to set about their musical journey
and wasted no time in hitting the live music scene as they gigged
at famous London haunts including The Dublin Castle
and Hope and Anchor. It didn't take long before
they were spotted at London's Water Rats by Stage
Records' boss, Matthew Brown. The band have since teamed up with
producer Paul Simm (whose credits include 'Overload'
and 'Run for Cover' by the Sugababes)
for their debut album, containing songs which have already received
rave reviews from their 14,000 strong myspace following. With a
debut single, album and live dates all set for 2008, IVYRISE
are a British band worth keeping an eye on.
