Welcome to Planet Hi.Rise

Dublin electro-futurists Hi.Rise have just released their greatly anticipated third independent E.P ‘The Long Distance Runner’. This four track affair blends abstract grooves and dark soaring melodies over an edgy electronic back drop, mixing up 80’s electro new wave sounds with big beats, soulful melodies and phat grooves. Hi.Rise recently opened Witnness 2003 with a storming set on the Main Stage, outclassing their memorable performance at last year’s festival when they played the Café tent:

. “As the winners of the Pet Sounds leg of the ‘Play At Witnness’ competition, Hi Rise needed to prove their mettle. Luckily they did, plus more. For a young band, they’re astonishingly polished and assured on stage, with a distinct visual identity, as well as a musical one. There were shades of “Pump Up The Volume”, hints of Primal Scream and a nice psychedelic sound happening. All in all, a lung-felt performance http://www.witnness.com/2002_review.php

The world of Hi.Rise was created when a vibrant bunch of twenty-somethings, with fire in their hearts and psychedelic stars in their eyes, put their heads together and came up with a female-fronted electronic-soul outfit in 1999. The line-up consists of Andrew Rooney (Guitar, Digital Programming, Keyboard), Des Bracken (Bass, Keyboard, Samplers), Anthony Patterson (Drums, Vocals) and Donna McCabe (Lead Vocals).

Their first release in 2000 was a four-track E.P, ‘The Cinnamon Graham Sessions’ which received extensive radio play. The E.P resulted in the successful ‘Hi.Rise presents’ club, which ran for eight months in Temple Bar. The club featured guest appearances by Shaun Ryder and Bez from the Happy Mondays. In 2002 Hi.Rise released the single ‘One man’s poison’, an ethereal and seductive dance track, with a luscious bossanova B-side ‘Love Rash’. The single was showcased at a support gig with indie darlings Shed Seven, receiving rave reviews. Love Rash has just recently been featured on the new Irish film ‘Goldfish Memory’ Soundtrack.

The band have recently set up their own studio and are currently in the process of re-mixing the “Long Distance Runner” EP, while a vinyl edition will be out in late September – there will only be 100 copies so you’d better be quick! This will be followed in early 2004 by the bands debut album. Hi.Rise embark on a promotional tour around the country’s regional radio stations and venues over the coming month so check press for details! The title track from the ‘Long Distance Runner’ E.P was also recently featured on the Hard Working Class Heroes Compilation CD.
